It is with great sadness that the White Plains Fire Department announces the passing of Deputy Fire Chief Edward J. Ciocca on May 1, 2020. On Behalf of the Mayor of The City of White Plains, Thomas M. Roach, the Commissioner of Public Safety, David E. Chong, and Fire Chief Richard L. Lyman the department thanks Chief Ciocca for his years of loyal service and excellent performance.
The Department of Justice is remaining vigilant in detecting, investigating, and prosecuting wrongdoing related to the crisis. In a memo to U.S. Attorneys, Attorney General Barr said, "The pandemic is dangerous enough without wrongdoers seeking to profit from public panic and this sort of conduct cannot be tolerated."
Commissioner David Chong and the White Plains Department of Public Safety thanks all of our friends and residents that have shown us such great support through these very tumultuous times. We cannot express how thankful we are for having such good neighbors, friends, and residents. There are so many gestures of good will towards the men and women of our Fire, Police, and EMS personnel, that it just warms our hearts to know that so many of you care.
A State of Emergency is hereby declared in the City of White Plains effective at 12:00 noon on March 16, 2020.

There have been recent car larcenies from unlocked vehicles in private driveways within our city and our neighboring jurisdictions. This has become not only a local crime issue, but one that extends throughout the country.
The White Plains Police actively seek to detect, deter and arrest persons involved in these crimes. For all the police effort, the single most effective way to not become a victim of this crime is to lock all the doors of your vehicles. It is as simple as that.
